Daily Meditation
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
~ John 6:35
In today’s Gospel, Jesus is asked by the crowd for a “sign” so that they “may see and believe” in Him. We are also looking for a “sign”, a guarantee. Jesus reveals that he himself is the real food we need for our hunger and thirst. This passage in some ways mirrors our response to today’s COVID-19 pandemic. We are battling an enemy that we cannot see. Our lives have been upended. As we hear predictions and recommendations, we just want to be shown the one right answer. Our faith leads us to trust in Jesus and his Word.
Let us Pray,
Dear Lord,
May my longing for you,
become a hunger for the bread which gives life.
Increase the grace you have already given me
and help me to remember that the bread you offer me
gives life not only to me, but to all of us in the world.
Renew in me an awareness of the presence of your Spirit
and stay with me, as you promised
until the end of time.
Amen
